How to start freelancing with Tally and GST skills

A practical path from your first bookkeeping client to a steady monthly income.

Small businesses need someone to keep their books and file GST every month. That makes accounting one of the most reliable freelance skills in India.

1. Get confident in Tally Prime and GST

Clients pay for accuracy. Practise a full month of entries and a complete GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B cycle before you pitch.

2. Start with people you know

Shops, clinics and traders near you are your first clients. Offer a fixed monthly fee for bookkeeping and GST filing.

3. Package your service

  • Bookkeeping: monthly fee based on number of transactions
  • GST filing: per return or monthly bundle
  • Year-end finalisation: one-time project fee

4. Keep a monthly calendar

Deadlines are the job. A clear calendar for GSTR-1, GSTR-3B and TDS keeps clients happy and coming back.
